Fists and Flames: Beginning of the Cataclysm Ch.4

By Sakura152

 Waking up:

The golden sunlight streamed through kitchen window. The wind blew against the wind chime, a soft heavenly tune played against the wind.
Pouring eggs into the pan, Chun-li's hips swayed along with the wind chime's ethereal tune. Asami smiled as she helped her mother prepare breakfast.

" Finished!" she proclaimed, beaming at Chun-li.

"Okay, go get everyone for breakfast."

"COME ON EVERY ONE, BREAKFAST!" Asami yelled, sitting down in her chair.

"I said go get them, not scream like a banshee, I could've done that." Chun-li snapped, placing Asami's plate in front of her.

Hitoshi walked into the kitchen, his brown hair in a mess. He was still in his Scooby-doo pajamas. As he sat down, Sakura skipped in, she had been up longer than Hitoshi watching Saturday cartoons. After five minutes Liu, Kitana, and Eijiro ambled into the kitchen.

" Sorry, we had to get dressed. It would be improper to be in our pajamas at the breakfast table of someone else's house." Liu clarified.

" Its' quite alright, you're family remember?" Chun-li glanced at Kitana, who sat uncomfortably in her chair. " Kitana, will you help me?"

Kitana looked up at her with a startled expression. Chun-li motioned her to come over to her. Kitana reluctantly got up and walked toward Chun-li, looking at her carefully.

When Kitana was near enough, Chun-li began to whisper.

" Kitana, I'm extremely sorry. I was just so upset with Ryu. I mean, first Ryu lies to me than, I find out you have been lying to me too. I just snapped." Chun-li began filling a plate with food to make it look as she wasn't talking to Kitana.

Kitana gaped in wonder at Chun-li. Was this the same stubborn Chun-li she had meet as a teen? Whenever she and Chun-li got into a little tiff, Chun-li would never apologize. Obviously, marriage and children softened her.

" I can't imagine what you've been going through! Worrying if Liu's alive or not, always looking over your shoulder. If I'd been in your place I probably would've gone crazy by now! Especially since Ryu takes a lot of journeys." She looked at Kitana from the corner of her eye. She was still awe-stricken. " Kitana, you don't have to forgive me if you don't want to, I'll understand."

Kitana noticed a hint of sadness in Chun-li's voice. She smiled sweetly at Chun-li even though she wasn't looking. " Chun-li, I've gone through thick and thin with you. I've given you advice when you needed it. I've stood up for you, and helped you when you didn't want help. After all the things we've been through, the years we've known each other, this is the first time you have offended me. I must admit, I was very upset when you didn't understand the situation from my point of view, but I also felt remorse for lying to you for so long. I've wanted to tell you but I was so ashamed for telling a lie to you and I feared I would lose you as a friend. I accept your apology and ask you to accept mine in return."

Chun-li was speechless. " I don't think I've ever heard you talk like that before. Did you take a grammar class?"

Kitana frowned, " Well, I am a princess. It's only right that I learn to speak proper, and no I didn't take a grammar class. I grew up talking like this. I just had to keep a low profile, so no one would get suspicious.

Chun-li smiled, " Speaking of suspicious I think everyone noticed that we are talking instead of making their plates." Chun-li looked over her shoulder at the table. Everyone was watching her and Kitana.

" Can we get some food here or do we have to order out?" Liu asked rubbing his stomach.

Chun-li noticed the only person not at the table was her husband. " Asami, where is your father?"

Asami shrugged " Probably still sleep." She continued to talk with Eijiro.

Frustrated, Chun-li went up stairs to her and Ryu's bedroom. Sure enough, he was asleep in bed. "Ryu! Time to get up!"

Ryu responded with a groan.

Chun-li stepped forward, to the edge of the bed and pulled the blanket off of Ryu. "Get up before I throw cold water on you."

Ryu muttered something incoherent. Rolled over on his side, slung his arm over his face and fell back asleep.

Chun-li was getting very agitated. She climbed into the bed and kneeled next to her sleeping husband. He looked so cute and innocent, sleeping in only blue boxers, pity she had to wake him up. She began prodding and poking him then stopped when he whined for her to stop.

"Come on, your missing breakfast."

"I'm not hungry."

"Well that's a first, look it doesn't matter weather your hungry or not you still have to get up. NOW!" Chun-li lost her temper when Ryu rolled to his other side, his back to her. Lowering her eyebrows, she raised her hand over her head and slapped Ryu's butt hard.

"OW!" Ryu screamed, holding his butt he rolled on his back, glaring up at Chun-li. "Why did you do that?"

"I had to wake you up some how!"

"Well you didn't have to do it that way!"

"Well...now that I know it works..."Chun-li gave Ryu a meaningful look.

Ryu frowned and sat up. He yawned and scratched his head. He looked adorable, like a little boy. Chun-li giggled, "Come on, everyone is waiting." She left the room and went down stairs. To her surprise everyone was now in the living room, watching cartoons with Sakura. Eijiro, who had never watched a single cartoon in his life, was amazed. He sat on the floor next to Sakura and Hitoshi gazing up at the screen in complete awe. Chun-li giggled as she walked pass them.

"Mommy, aren't you gonna watch cartoons with us?" Sakura asked, her ingenuous nature played in her favor and Chun-li couldn't turn her down.

"Yes dear, but after I eat breakfast ok?"

Sakura nodded.

When Chun-li came into the kitchen she found Kitana sitting at the table waiting for her.

"We need to talk." She said quietly.

"I thought we did that, besides I'm hungry."

"You can eat and talk at the same time, and I think its time I told you the truth."

Chun-li studied her for a few minutes before sitting down in front of the plate Kitana had set out for her.

"When I was a little girl I would wonder why I didn't have a mother. All the other children in the city had mothers, and I couldn't understand why I didn't have one. So I asked my sister Mileena why we didn't have a mother. She pretended not to know what I was talking about, so I was forced to ask Shao Khan. He told me that I didn't have a mother and that I never had one."

Kitana stopped a sour expression on her face. " If he had told me how he murdered my parents, and stole their kingdom Edenia, I would have slit his throat right then." Her fists clenched in rage. "And to think, that thing wasn't even my sister!" Kitana's fists were now white from squeezing so hard.

Chun-li gently reached over and unclenched Kitana's hands. Her palms were bleeding from her nails digging into them. Chun-li got up, taking Kitana to the sink. She began to wash her hands, "Well we have more in common than we thought." Chun-li said quietly.

Kitana snapped out of her daze, she looked at Chun-li intently, "How so?"

Chun-li stopped washing Kitana's hands, "We're both orphans." She turned off the water.

"You weren't raised by your parents slaughterer."

"That is true, but we also have more in common than that. We both love men who are also orphans, and are both avoiding a lunatic so their wives won't kill them, and not daring to fight because of their families."

"Then we are both very lucky women for being loved so much, and very unfortunate women for loving men who we could lose so easily." Kitana barely whispered, her lip trembling and her eyes were moist.

Chun-li hugged Kitana tightly, as Kitana cried. She cried for all her worries, her fears, and that dream of peace, which would never come. Trembling violently, she let go of Chun-li.

"Thank you. It helps to have someone understand." She wiped the tears off her face and smiled at Chun-li.

Chun-li smiled back.
