Blind Love vs. Blind Justice Ch.1
By Ting-chan

Hong Kong's Southern Hu Shan Port

Pulling her wind breaker jacket tighter around her, she shifted in her crouched position behind the large cargo crates in an unsuccessful attempt to elude the chilly night breeze. The fabric of her wind breaker hissed almost lamentably as the gusts continued their endless assult on her. Frigid and stinging, the winds whipped across her face giving her the brusque sensation of rubbing against sandpaper. In their course from the sea, the gusts also brought with them the saline scent of the ocean which, in her current position, only succeeded in making her more nauseated.

The only real comfort, if it can be called such, that she registered in her mind of the situation was that she had no need to worry about falling asleep.

Her dark bangs flitted and flapped in the air, its rhythm coinciding with the brisk sea air movements. In sheer annoyance she groaned and brushed them from her eyes. Following that motion, she snatched up her radio communicator and held it up to her lips.

"This is leader, code name Nemesis. Report status of stations."

After a few dismal crackles of static interference, a voice sounded over the transmitter, temporarily overshadowing the howling winds.

"Station Alpha reporting to Nemesis. All set and ready to execute planned bust. No sign of target from the East."

"Good. Keep alert."

"Station Beta reporting to Nemesis. Ready to execute orders. Still awaiting sign of target in the South."

"Alright. Stay on your guard."

The one code named Nemesis finally stood up and with a half sigh half groan to stretched her legs and rid it of the sharp, spiny sensation that was inching up from her foot. She spoke into the communicator again. "Station Gamma?"

With the aid of her night vision binoculars she peered at the still waters of the sea beyond the bay. Then she paused to speak into the transmitter once again. "Station Gamma?"

Her brows furrowed into a frown as the radio communicated sputtered out a series of incoherent crackles and sharp snapping noises.

"Station Gamma, report in now. This is your leader speaking..."

"Hey chill Chun Li!" A cheerful voice interrupted her from the radio communicator. "Have no fear because Supercop is here!"

Chun Li rolled her eyes.

It had to be Jason Hu, the new addition to her task force division. He just transferred from the national security branch in Canton. Those who had the "pleasure" of meeting him either loved him or, as in her unfortunate case, hated him. He was free wheeling, happy-go-lucky, absolutely irresponsible and always unpredictable.

"Station Gamma leader," Chun Li snapped. "Explain yourself, why did you not answer your commanding officer's call?"

"You don't have to be so formal," the joking voice continued. "You know you can just call me Jason."

"You are way out of line!" Chun Li hissed over the transmitter. "Officer, answer my question. Why did you not answer?"

"Alright, alright, sorry. I just took the batteries out of the thing for a while for my flash light."

"YOU DID WHAT????"

"Well yeah, none of the other guys on my team had any batteries with them, so I figured..."

Chun Li took a deep breath to steady her building rage before she hissed back into the transmitter,

"Why did you need the flash light?"

"Well it was dark and I didn't want to trip while I was walking around the dock."

"Your LEFT your surveillance station and your team???" Chun Li practically screamed into the receiver end of the communicator as she pounded an angry fist into one of the wooden crates. "Listen buddy. You just jeopardized 2 months worth of Interpole's setup for this sting! What reason, what possible reason, would you have to leave your station???"

She suddenly felt a soft tap on her shoulder. Stunned, she whirled around to face Jason's debonair smile. He had his communicator in one hand and the other held an open pastry box up to her puzzled face.

"Want a donut?"

Absolute vehemence radiated from Chun Li's eyes as she glared at his still cheery grin.

"Donuts? That's why you risked over 2 months' worth of work? Donuts???"

"Hey don't be angry. I would've brought you coffee but..."

Chun Li instantly grabbed the collar of his uniform. "You idiot! I should..."

She was cut off though as a voice came over the communicator.

"Station Alpha reporting. Lights approaching fast from the East. Possible target sighting."

In an instant, Chun Li released Jason and picked up her binoculars to look out into the waters.

"Affirmative Team Alpha, that's our target. Stand by to deploy sting."

Chun Li then turned her attention to Jason. "And YOU, just stay out of sight."

With that, she shoved him behind the wooden crates and softly whispered an exasperated prayer for her sanity.
