Reminiscences of Love Ch.2
By Vicky
The young girl slumped down on the bed, her eyes obviously looking at her
mother in protest.
"I don't need a babysitter mother. I can take care of myself."
The woman looked at her daughter sweetly, while still fixing her hair with
both hands. "And what about your little brother and sister?"
"I can take care of them too! And I'll do a much better job than some
old hag!"
"Megan! She is not an old hag, and she is not a babysitter! She is an
agent of MI-6 and has been sent to protect you."
The teenager crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"So what's the difference. I don't get to go anywhere anymore. It's not
fair!"
The older woman stood in front of Megan and cupped her cheeks gently in her
hands.
"Oh, sweetheart. Your father and I are only worried about your safety.
You children are our world, and we couldn't live with ourselves if something
were to happen to you. Please understand."
"I understand." Megan sighed. Her mother pushed a lock of the girl's
brown hair behind her ear and walked out of the room to find her husband. Just
as Megan walked down the stairs, the doorbell rang and a hyperactive six year
old girl raced down by her.
"She's here! She's here!" The little girl was anxiously pulling on
her mother's skirt. Megan smiled briefly, as she saw her energetic little
sister attempting to climb up her mother's leg. She then looked at her younger
brother Josh, who was playing some video game, careless of the events taking
place.
"I'll open the door." Megan's father walked up to the door,
ignoring his wife's little crisis with their youngest daughter. He opened the
door, and welcomed Cammy into their home. Litzy poked her small head from
behind her father's figure and stared in awe at the young agent visiting them.
The man patted Cammy on the back and spoke to his children.
"Kids, this is Cammy, and she will be staying with us for a few days.
Please make yourself at home Miss White."
"Thank you Mr. Johnson." Cammy faked a smile and looked around the
mansion she was standing in. It was a huge place and very nicely decorated.
Cammy looked at the young boy playing video games in the living room, then at
little Litzy, who was now holding her mother's hand, then made eye contact with
Megan, who in returned smiled mischievously at her.
"We'll be back by midnight children. Be good with Miss White" Both
sisters waved at their parents goodbye while Josh was still busily playing
another one of his video games.
Cammy turned her attention to the girls again. Megan frowned at the agent.
"Well, I don't want to be here luv and I can see that neither do you,
so lets make the best of it!" As soon as Cammy finished talking, Litzy
walked up to her, sucking her right thumb. Cammy placed her hands on her knees
and looked down at the little girl.
"Well, hello sweetie."
"I like your hair."
Cammy couldn't help but smile.
"Why thank you." Litzy started giggling and yanked on one of
Cammy's pigtails, making the English woman loose her balance and fall face
first on the floor. She then crawled on Cammy's back pulling both her pigtails
hard.
"I want to play horsy!"
"Ow!"
Megan burst out laughing, as she saw the spectacle in front of her.
"Well, this is going to be interesting…" She walked away from
Cammy, and settled down to play with her brother…leaving the agent crying out
in agony…
****
"Deliver the package tomorrow at dusk…"
"What? What am I supposed to do with the kid until then?"
"You're a smart lad. You'll figure it out…"
"Huh? Hey! Wait! Argh."
Evel slammed the phone in frustration. He cursed his current employer for
being so careless. It would be hard for him to stay clear of the authorities
with a hostage to worry about. He walked through the dark streets, making his
way slowly to his destination. Just another normal night in his life…
****
"Ha! I win again!"
Megan stared at the TV. She had lost twenty times to her brother on some
fighting game.
"Ha ha! I am the champion!" Josh was prancing around the living
room yelling at the top of his lungs that he had won once again. "It's a
stupid game anyway! I would have won if you hadn't kept pulling my controller
away!
"What?" Josh crossed his arms in front of his chest. "I
didn't do such a thing! Don't be such a sore looser Megan!
"Yeah, whatever…" Megan rolled her eyes and looked at Cammy and
Litzy, who were sitting on the sofa behind them. Litzy had undone Cammy's
braids and the agent was now wearing multicolored ribbons and bows all over her
head. The little girl was still working on one of Cammy's hair strands. The
helpless woman was just sitting there staring at the now blank TV. Megan got up
and shot a hateful glance at Cammy, and then walked up stairs, Josh followed
her not far behind.
Cammy took her strand of hair out of Litzy's hand and sat her down on the
sofa beside her. She then worked on getting the ribbons out of her hair. Litzy
silently stared at her, while she was busily sucking her thumb.
"Aren't you a little old for that Litzy?" The little girl tilted
her head and kept staring at Cammy.
"Sigh…guess you don't like me too much either, do you luv? It's bedtime
for you" Cammy lifted the little girl and carried her of to bed.
"My mommy always reads me a bedtime story…" Cammy's eyes widened.
"Uh, which one?"
"These ones!" Litzy handed Cammy ten storybooks.
"Oh, this is going to be a long night…"
Meanwhile across the hall, Megan was looking at a fashion magazine while
Josh was plotting against their babysitter. "I know! We can dye her hair
purple!" Josh said with a hint of pride in his voice.
"Nah, we did that last time, remember" Megan just kept passing the
pages on her magazine.
"Oh, yeah…I know! We can put ants in her food!"
Megan rolled her eyes and looked up from her magazine.
"Don't be so immature Josh!"
"Oh, Megan, you're no fun…"
"So then Snow White said…" Cammy looked up from the fifth
storybook she had read to see Litzy sound asleep. Cammy smiled as she put the
covers over Litzy. She then made her way downstairs and sat on the living room
sofa once again.
"This isn't so bad…"
Just then the sound of loud rock music thundered from upstairs. "Oh,
for the love of God…." Cammy grabbed two small pillows and covered her
ears, trying to block the horrible sound coming from above…
****
Evel made his way through the shadows that covered the mansion's yard. From
there he could here a stereo booming in the distance. He smiled. The noise will
help his cover. He circled the house, looking for a way to go in and decided to
climb up the wall and break through one of the bedroom windows. He silently
went through his task and reached one of the windows. He looked through and
although the room was pitch black he could see a small child sleeping
peacefully on the bed. He made his way in, and heard the loud music from across
the hall. He looked at the little girl and wondered how could she sleep so
deeply with the racket next door. Evel reached out to grab her, but the bedroom
door swung open revealing Megan's silhouette against the hallway's light.
"Hey Litzy…." Her breath was caught short as she saw the intruder
standing beside her little sister's bed. She tried to run to get help, but Evel
ran after her. Before she could reach the staircase, the spy grabbed her from
behind and covered her mouth with one hand. She struggled to get free. Josh and
Cammy could obviously not hear her because of the loud music. Her cries for
help were muffled by the grip he had over her mouth. But she wasn't going to
give up. She tried her hardest to break free. She bit his hand furiously,
making him loose his grip long enough for her to weakly kick his leg and manage
to run away. "D*mn it" Evel ran back to Litzy's room to finish the
job. She reached the staircase and called for Cammy who lazily looked up from the
sofa. She got up quickly when she saw Megan's startled looked as she ran down
the stairs.
"There's a man upstairs. He was in Litzy's room and…."
"Okay, okay…just stay down here."
Cammy ran upstairs. She ignored Josh's loud radio and walked into Litzy's
room. From the doorway, she could see that the little girl was still asleep in
her bed. Cammy walked up to the little girl, frowning as she figured that Megan
had made a fool out of her. Just then she felt a slight movement behind her.
Evel aimed a blow to Cammy's head but she turned around and easily blocked it.
She twisted his attacking arm and kicked his stomach, making him stumble
backwards and knock over Litzy's toy tea table. He fell on the ground with a
loud thud. Litzy heard the crash and slowly got up, rubbing her sleepy eyes.
She screamed when she saw the strange man in her room. Evel got up and
retrieved a dagger from his outfit. He attacked Cammy, but she ducked. He used
the opportunity to kick her back. She lost her balance and he pinned her on the
floor, putting his dagger in front of her throat.
Cammy looked into the eyes behind the black mask. Sharp emeralds stared at
her with hatred. She had seen eyes like those before, but she couldn't recall
where. Suddenly, his fiery gaze changed to one of confusion. For a moment,
their world was that stare. Everything else disappeared, even Litzy's
frightened cries. "Cammy…?" The word came out of his lips like a
faint whisper, taken long ago by the fiery winds.
Cammy let her guard down momentarily at the sound of her name. But she took
his weakness as her advantage and pushed him away from her, then she kicked the
dagger of his hands.
"I don't know who you are mate, but comin' here was your biggest
mistake…"
That said, Cammy attacked him with her Thrust Kick, making him crash into
the opposite wall. At this point Litzy was hiding under her bed covers.
To Cammy's surprise, he recovered quickly and raced toward her. She got on
her defensive stand, but Evel managed to grip her throat tightly and make her
unable to move.
"Maybe my dear, but I'm not leaving until I get what I came for…"
He then threw Cammy, making her head crash into a mirror. She slid into the
floor unconscious.
FLASHBACK
The rain poured down with endless force on the earth. Large puddles covered
the terrain and lightning shocked the heavens in the distance. A young girl
disturbed those puddles, as she ran. She heard a voice behind her, but ignored
it, knowing that if she stopped he would catch up.
"Wait! Cammy, wait!
Unable to run away from him much longer, she stooped in her tracks, but she
did not dare to look at him.
"Cammy, where are you going in such a hurry?"
She answered without turning to look at him.
"Mission…. Failed…. Must…. Report"
Evel angrily pulled her arm, forcing her to face him.
"Oh, stop it Cammy! You're not like them! I'm not like them…not
anymore."
Those last words sounded like a muffled sigh. His frustration and feelings
were seen right through it.
Cammy, sighed. "I'll never be like you Evel. You still have a human heart.
Goodbye"
She freed herself from his grip and walked away.
"Cammy, please, don't go…" Those were the last words he ever spoke
to her…
END OF FLASHBACK
"Evel…!" Cammy sat up gasping that name. Another piece of her past
fell into place.
"Miss White, are you alright?"
Cammy looked up to see the children's parents already home. The family's
concerned looks fell upon her.
"Litzy? Where is Litzy?" Cammy's only worry was the little girl
whom was obviously the intruder's target.
"She's right here" Mrs. Jonhson sat in front of Cammy, holding the
little girl in her arms. The agent gave out a sigh of relieve.
"The children told us how you scared of the intruder, thank you"
Mr. Johnson also knelt beside the girl. Cammy touched her forehead slightly and
found a few droplets of blood there.
"Come, Miss White, we'll take care of your wound…" Mr. Jonhson
helped Cammy up and out of the room…
